Dave Brewer
Master Wood Carver

My carving career has been a recent development, one that is "self-taught" through experiment and hard work.

I retired from advertising, publishing and graphic design where I worked in capacities of Art Director, Creative Director and Product Manager. In these fields I managed to win over twelve ADDY's and Art Director Club awards for excellence over the years.

I was in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1960 to 1966. I graduated from The Kansas City Art Institute and School of Design and graduated from the University of Kansas in fine arts.

The best way to describe my self taught skills would be to explain my elite stats in the "Grinling Gibbons Society"

I am one of six craftsmen with the title of "Artisan Member".

To achieve this status one must submit their work to a jury of peers. On the left is a sampling of the work which I submitted for judging. It is a portion of a "pradeux" made for "St. Bede's Episcopal Church in Santa Fe.

Grinling Gibbons, the famous 17th century baroque master, whose work may be seen in Buckingham Palace.
